Extracurricular activities 28.03.2016 - 03.04.2016

We have some different, funny and interesting activities for this week, join us!
Have a look into our daily propositions:

Monday 28, Theatrical tour - 5.20 pm: Dramatised tour – Today we are going to get to know Salamanca a bit better with a different tour.
Approximated duration: 1h 30min.

Tuesday 29, Exhibition - 5.00 pm: Teacher Aroa will guide us to an exhibition in DA2 museum.
Approximated duration: 1h

Wednesday 30, Film - 4.00 pm: A dose of Spanish culture with a Spanish film based on the period of the Civil War.

Thursday 31, Chocolate con churros - 8:30 am: Have you already tried chocolate con churros (hot chocolate with a fried dough)? We will try this delicious breakfast at the school’s bar. Come enjoy the delicious treat with us!
Approximated duration: 40 min.

Friday 1, Dance class - 4.55 pm: Come and dance with us to know the base steps for many of the famous Latin American and Spanish dances. Reserve your place before Thursday 31st.
Approximated duration: 1h. (minimum 3 people).

Saturday, April 2 and Sunday 3: Trips - If you´d like to go on a trip this weekend, check with the school office to find out information on the different places we can recommend.

We´d like to remind you that it´s necessary to sign up for each activity in order to reserve a spot; a minimum of 3 people is normally required. The meeting point is always Tía Tula, unless we inform you otherwise. 

The activities are not only for having fun (that´s a guarantee). They´re also meant for you to improve your knowledge of the culture in Salamanca and Spain, and to use the Spanish that you learn in class.

Tuesday 29, 5:30 pm: Quiz – Show what you know (and learn some more) about Spanish and Latin American culture in this workshop with teacher Beatriz.
Approximate duration: 1 h

Wednesday 30, 6:20 pm: Chocolate con churros – Your Spanish experience isn't complete if you don't try this delicious snack.
Approximate duration: 1 h

Thursday 24, 4:30 pm: Plaza Mayor – Discover all the secrets of Plaza Mayor with a game of questions and challenges.
Approximate duration: 1 h

Friday 25, 7:30 pm: Tapas tour – How many tapas have you already tried? Well, here's your chance to try some more and enjoy really nice conversations.

Monday 14, 5:00 pm: Dramatised tour – Today we are going to get to know Salamanca a bit better and in a different way.

Tuesday 15, 4:30 pm: Conversation workshop – Teacher Cristina will suggest some topics and help you get better at speaking Spanish.

Wednesday 16, 4:30 pm: Boat trip – Tía Tula will take us to a boat trip along the river Tormes (pedal boats or rowing).

Thursday 17, 4:00 pm: Film – Come enjoy a good Spanish film.

Friday 18, 7:30 pm: Microtheatre – We are heading to La Malhablada  to enjoy a microtheatre play.

Extracurricular activities 3.08.2015 - 9.08.2015


August's just started with a lot of fun activities to keep enjoying summer.

Monday 03, 4:00 pm: Film – Let's start the week with a spanish film session to improve our Spanish.

Tuesday 04, 6:00 pm: Guided Tour – Our Spanish Teacher Nela will take us to some of the most symbolic places of Salamanca and will tell us their history.

Wednesday 05, 5:00 pm: Horse riding – We'll enjoy a horse riding through charro fields. It's going to be a great experience!

Thursday 06, 4:30 pm: Padel – We're going to play padel with our Spanish teacher Pablo, who will teach us some techniques.

Friday 07, 7:30 pm: Cinema – We will take you to the cinema to see the film you prefer on the billboard.

Saturday 08 and Sunday 09 – Would you like to go to an excursion this weekend? Come by the reception desk to check the destination available.

Tuesday 28, 4:30 pm: Theatre workshop - We are heading to espacio al_margen for some theatrical exercises. You will have fun and gain confidence in expressing yourselves.

Wednesday 29, 5:00 pm: Conversation workshop - Teacher Cristina will suggest some topics and help you get better at speaking Spanish.

Thursday 30, 7:30 pm: Tapas tour - Here comes again, a great chance to meet people, practise what you learn in class and savor some delicious Spanish tapas.

Friday 31, 7:15 pm: Cinema - We will take you to the cinema where you will watch a film of your choice.

Saturday 1 y Sunday 2 - One-day or two-day excursions to several destinations. Further information at the reception desk.

This week at Tía Tula we have planned after-class activities for every taste. Don't miss them out!


Monday 6, 5:20 pm:
Dramatised tour – A citizen of 1850's Salamanca will show you some of the key spots of the city and their history through some fun games.
Approximate duration: 2 h.

Tuesday 7, 5:00 pm: Film – Don't miss this chance to improve your Spanish and get to know the culture a bit better.
Approximate duration: 1:40 h.

Wednesday 8, 7:30 pm: Literary meet – Actor, dramatist and stage director Roberto García Encinas is the speaker, and the gardens of Santo Domingo, the unrivalled venue.
Approximate duration: 1:30 h.

Thursday 9, 4:30 pm: Theatre workshop - Put into practice the Spanish you are learning at class in this theatre workshop held at espacio _almargen.
Approximate duration: 2 h.

Friday 10, 7:30 pm: Tapas tour – One cannot fully know a culture until he tries its gastronomy, so we are doing that today in a tapas tour in which we will visit some of the best tapas bars in the city centre.
Approximate duration: 1:30 h.



Saturday 11 y Sunday 12: Excursions – Santander, Aveiro, Oporto, Pamplona (it's San Fermín!), Madrid, Lisboa y Fátima, Sevilla... You choose. Further information at the reception desk.

Monday 29, 5:30 pm: Quiz and games around the city - Follow the clues with your team, answer the questions and fulfill the challenges. A great way to get to know the city better, practise your Spanish and have fun. Plus, there is a price for the winning team. A former student wrote about this activity in this article.

Tuesday 30, 4:30 pm: Film – Don't miss out. Watching films is an effective way to perfect your listening skills and broaden your vocabulary.

Wednesday 1, 6:30 pm: Games in the park - Come play some card games in the shade of the trees by the river Tormes. 
Approximate duration: 1:30 h.

Thursday 2, 3:40 pm: Zumba – Teacher Lourdes will introduce us to the zumba world. Read more about it and warm up with some zumba songs in this article.

Friday 3, 9:30 h: Storyteller – Here is our recommendation for today: enjoy storyteller Maricuela de Teruel's show at Casa de las Conchas. No entrance free.

Saturday 4, Sunday 5: Excursions – Segovia, Toledo, Aveiro, Lisboa-Fátima-Coimbra... Several destinations available for one-day trips and weekend trips. Further information at the reception desk.

Tuesday 19, 5:00 pm: Scavenger hunt – We are going on a scavenger hunt to discover the secrets the city keeps and some of its most peculiar spots.

Wednesday 20, 6:00 pm: Merienda - Let's go have an afternoon snack (merienda) at Café Bar Mandala. They offer a wide range of juices, coffees, cakes, tapas, ice-creams...

Thrusday 21, 5:50 pm: Workshop: Celebrations and music in Salamanca - By the always joyful Carmen, one of our teachers.

Friday 22, 6:00 pm: Hiking – Come enjoy the delightful views of Salamanca from the outskirts. Don't forget to bring comfortable clothes and shoes and a bottle of water.

Watching Spanish movies helps you improve your listening skills and identify the natural rhythm of the language, discover new vocabulary and gain a deeper understanding of the culture and customs of the country. You have got the chance to enjoy this experience at the cinema for less than 3 euros until Thursday (included). Yes, you heard right!

Cómo sobrevivir a una despedida

Comedy
Synopsis: The film revolves about a group of 27-year-old friends who, as teenagers, aspired to finding a well-paid job, getting a Christian Grey-like boyfriend and living in a big appartment in the centre of Madrid. What they got is a shared flat, jobs as interns that only allow them to buy new clothes at the sales and dating guys who are allergic to commitment. Never ones to give up in the face of adversity, they decide to set up a bachelorette party for the more responsible member of the gang, Gisela, inGran Canaria when she is about to become the first of the group to get married (Wikipedia).

How to get a ticket

In order to get a ticket at 2.90 euros you need to register. Fill this form in and you will be sent your accreditation by email (if you need us to give you a hand, drop by the reception desk). There is no need to print the accreditation out if you have a smartphone: you can show it on your mobile phone.

Just take your accreditation and your ID card or passport to the ticket office and buy your ticket at 2.90 euros.

Extracurricular activities 20.04.2015 - 26.04.2015

A DIY mug decorating workshop, a dramatized tour of the city... This week we have a whole host of activities available. Enjoy!


Monday 20, 4:00 pm: Dramatized tour – Come learn the history and legends behind some of Salamanca's most important monuments in a different and fun way.

Tuesday 21, 7:00 pm: Huerto de Calixto y Melibea – Discover the romantic story behind this beautiful garden.
Approximate duration: 40min.

Wednesday 22, 7:00 pm: 'Decorate your mug' workshop – Teacher Alicia will show us how to decorate mugs with a design of your choosing.
Approximate duration: 1h.

Thursday 23, Holiday* – We are celebrating Castile and Leon Community Day. *For your convenience, we are having classes today and moving the holiday to Friday 24th. This way you will enjoy a long weekend. May we suggest you go on a trip? Check the destinations available below. 
April 23rd is also World Book Day. Tip: visit the book fair at Plaza Mayor.
 
Friday 24, 12:00 pm: Film– Although there will be no classes today, if you are staying in Salamanca you may want to come watch a Spanish film with us.

Saturday 25: Excursions – This long weekend is the perfect opportunity to go on a trip and discover other spots in Spain and Portugal. Oporto, Aveiro, Valle del Jerte, Sevilla, Segovia and Ávila. Extracurricular Activities 30.03.15 - 04.04.15




This week is Semana Santa and here at Tía Tula we want to give you the chance to experience Easter with a distinctly Spanish flavour. Come and learn about the different Spanish and regional customs in a fun and engaging way!
Remember, Tia Tula will be closed on Thursday 2nd and Friday 3rd April. We will re-open Monday 6th April.

Monday 30th, 17.00 : Film. We start the week with Tapas, a film written and directed by José Corbacho and Juan Cruz. Set in a working-class neighbourhood on the outskirts of Barcelona, Tapas tells the story of a group of ordinary people going about their daily lives. Intelligently written, funny and profoundly moving, this is a film not be missed!

Tuesday 31st, 16.50: Game. Know and Win! Beatriz will be hosting a quickfire quiz that will test your general knowledge skills and at the same time help you practise your Spanish.

Wednesday 1st, 22:15: Procession Come and watch the procession of  La Hermandad de nuestro padre Jesús Flagelado y de Nuestra Señora de las Lágrimas from the balconies of Tía Tula School, whilst enjoying a glass of sweet wine and tasting the traditional obleas (wafers).

Thursday 2nd April: Jueves Santo. Public Holiday. School Closed

Wednesday 18, 6:00 pm: Plaza Mayor – Come learn about the history of Plaza Mayor. Approximate duration. 40 min.

Thursday 19, 7:45 pm: Microtheatre – We love the microtheatre plays that show in
La Malhablada.We'll go see one today. Approximate duration: 30 min.

A bicycle tour, a Spanish conversation workshop, a seafood tapas tour... Join us for this well-rounded week!

Monday 23, 5:00 pm: Bicycle tour – We are going cycling around Salamanca. Don't worry if you don't own a bicycle here, you can always rent one.

Tuesday 24, 5:00 pm: Film – We will watch a great film in Spanish. An effective way to practise our language skills.

Wednesday 25, 6:50 pm: Conversation workshop – Teacher Cristina will walk you through the secrets to mastering Spanish conversation.

Thursday 26 7:30 pm: Table football – Up for a little competition? We will play table football (foosball in the States) in two teams. Who will win?

Friday 27, 7:30 pm: Seafood bar We will try delicious seafood tapas: octopus, squid, clams... You choose.

Activities 2.2.2015 - 7.2.2015

Let's welcome February with these fun extracurricular activities:

Monday 02, 5:00 pm: Film– We'll watch a Spanish film to practise our listening and comprehension skills.

Tuesday 03, 4:50 pm: Visit to a museum – We will visit the Automobile Museum (Museo de la Historia de la Automoción), which shows a permanent exhibition with more than 90 cars that explores the changes in their design. Thursday 05, 3:45 pm: Zumba lesson – We're looking forward to this zumba lesson. The teacher will be our very own Lourdes (also a Spanish teacher at Tía Tula, Colegio de Español). Approximate duration: 1 h.
Friday 06, 7:45 pm: Language exchange – We will go to a bar and have a language exchange between Spanish speaking students and foreign students. Come join us in this amazing opportunity to improve your Spanish. Approximate duration: 1 h.

Saturday 07: Excursion –Several destinations available for a weekend trip. Ask at the reception desk and sign up by Wednesday at 2 pm.

Activities 12.1.2015 - 17.1.2015


Don't let the winter scare you, there are plenty of things to do in Salamanca also this time of the year. Continue to practise your Spanish after class in our activities. Here is what we have in store for you this week:

Monday 12, 19:00: Cards –Today we are going to play chinchón, a traditional Spanish card game. Approximate duration: 1 h.

Tuesday 13, 17:00: Guided tour - Come join us for a guided tour around the historical city. A member of the staff will provide you with details on the history of the city and its monuments. Approximate duration: 1 h.

Wednesday 14, 19:40: Literary event - Writer Reynaldo Lugo Mendoza will talk about his artistic career, his influences and the meaning of his work at Teatro Liceo. Approximate duration: 1 h 30 min

Thursday 15, 17:45: Indoor swimming pool– We are heading to the indoor swimming pool at La Alamedilla for a swim. Don't forget to bring your swimsuit, your swim cap, your flip-flops, your towel and your swimming skills ;-) Approximate duration: 1 h 30 min

Friday 16, 17:00: Film – Spanish cinema evening to continue practising your Spanish listening and comprehension skills.

Saturday 17: Excursion – There are several destinations available in case you want to go on a trip during the weekend. For more information please ask at the reception desk.Please, do not forget to sign up by 2 pm on Wednesday.

Activities 24.11.2014 - 30.11.2014

We will start off this week by a Spanish cinema evening followed by some arts & crafts making on Tuesday. For those of you who like to cook and try new food we have prepared a paella cooking class on Wednesday and an international dinner on Friday. And if you like art we will go to an art exhibition of Salamanca’s very own Enrique Marty on Thursday. Don’t miss out and sign up for this week’s activities!

Monday 24, 17:30: Film – Spanish cinema evening to continue practicing your Spanish listening and comprehension skills.

Tuesday 25, 19:00: Arts & Crafts – Christmas is coming in 4 weeks and so each of us will prepare an advent calendar to await its arrival. . Approximate duration: 1h 30 min.

Wednesday 26, 18:45: Cooking class – This week we will learn how to cook a delicious paella. Approximate duration: 1h. 

Thursday 27, 18:30: Exposition – We’ll go to the museum of modern art DA2 to see the works of Enrique Marty, an artist from Salamanca. Approximate duration: 1h. 

Friday 28, 19:00: International Dinner – There are many international students at Tía Tula and we think it’s a good idea for each of you to try different cuisines. And so, everyone should bring one dish (salty or sweet) for others to try. Approximate duration: 1h 30 min.

Activities 27.10.2014 - 02.11.2014


And so the scariest week of the year begins – Halloween is here! Prepare your homes, dust off your costumes and steel your nerves, it’s trick or treat time ;) However, because we are so nice we are going to skip the trick part and jump ahead to give you some treats including a legend surrounding the Cave of Salamanca as well as a special All Saints’ Day cooking class and Zombie Parade!

Monday 27: Cinema – We suggest that you take an advantage of the Film Festival being in town and go see a movie for the great price of €2,90. The festival takes place on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. For more info click here: Film Festival 2014. Tuesday 28, 16:45: Cave of Salamanca – We will discover the Cave of Salamanca and the legend that surrounds it. Approximate duration: 40 min. 

Wednesday 29, 19:15: Cooking class – Torrijas & Buñuelos. This Wednesday we will learn how to make traditional desserts for All Saints’ Day – torrijas and buñuelos. You will, of course, get to eat them afterwards ;) Approximate duration: 1h. 

Thursday 30, 16:45: Guided tour – We will begin our tour of Salamanca at the ancient church of San Millán which is an excellent starting point for a tour focusing on the urban and architectural aspects of Salamanca. Approximate duration: 45 min. 

Friday 31, 18:45: Zombie Parade – Zombies will invade Calle Azafranel to celebrate the terrifying Halloween night. Do not miss the show and do not forget to dress up in the scariest way you can imagine. Approximate duration: 30 min.

Activities 09/06-14/06

This week full of shows, fun and many other unusual things to do. Besides of the 12th of June, 
it´s a great holiday of San Juan, the  patron of the city, there will be street shows, cinema, tapas route and excursion to Oporto. Wish you a good week!

Monday  09, 17.45 – STREET SHOW.
Traut 'The McKensy's Clan Band' 
A group of eccentric Scottish passing through the streets with bagpipes timbales and drums. Their passage presume is  a spectacle which has an humor, surprise and magic of music. Thus, their march through the city becomes a work of street theater and comedy improvisation.

Tuesday 10, 19. 50 – STREET SHOW.
Brincadeira 'Street Dance'. 
The Catalans company walk through the main streets with their dynamic percussion show, in which the choreography and rhythms evolve constantly into a real party where the audience participates in bulk, dancing, cheering and applauding the percussionists. 
Meeting point: Tia Tula - Approximate Length: 30 min.

Wednesday  11, 20.00 – TAPAS ROUTE.
With the theme of gastronomic event, we will go to one of the participating café to sample and vote on their culinary proposals: "el pincho fácil" we should have any ingredient in yellow, the color that defines this year's Festival poster image.

Thursday  12, HOLIDAY.
There will be fireworks the night of 11 June at 22h45 by the Roman bridge. I recommend them.
It is the feast of San Juan of Sahagún, patron of the city. There are no classes in the morning.

Friday  13, 12.00-16.30 –CINEMA.
Pan's Labyrinth by  Guillermo del Toro (2006) 
In 1944 fascist Spain, a 13 years old girl, fascinated with fairy-tales, is sent along with her pregnant mother to live with her new stepfather, a ruthless captain of the Spanish army. During the night, she meets a fairy who tell her she's a princess, but must prove her royalty. If she fails, she will never see her real father, the king, again.
