Father´s day

One day a year, we share our love a little bit extra with our fathers, this day has become a habit over the years.  Although we have the impression that father´s day only exists for commercial purposes, there is a beautiful story behind this day. It all started the 19th of june 1909, in the United States, when a woman called Sonora Smart Dodd wanted to honor her father, Henry Jackson Smart. This veteran (of the civil war) became a widow when his wife (the mother of Sonora Smart Dodd) died when she was giving birth to their sixth child. Henry Jackson raised his six children in a rural farm in Washington. Sonora Smart realized that her father had been a role model and proposed his date of birth, June 19, to celebrate Father's Day.

The idea of instituting a Father's Day was received with enthusiasm by many people in several counties and cities, but it was not executed until 1924, when President Calvin Coolidge supported the idea of a national Father's Day. In 1966 President Lyndon Johnson signed a proclamation declaring the third Sunday in June as Father's Day in America.

This day is celebrated in the major part of the United States on the third Sunday of June.

A father should be his son's first hero, and his daughter's first love...In Spain the date has changed due to the Catholic influence. St. Joseph's Day, which falls on March 19. St. Joseph is a Catholic holiday memorizing the life of the patron of the carpenters - Joseph - he is the example of fatherhood, a good husband as well as a foster father of Jesus and husband of the Virgin Mary.

In Spain, father´s day was an official holiday. This day is considered as very important in Spain, because it recognizes the contribution of a parent to a family in particular and for the society in general. As well as the day to honor those family members or friends who act as a father figure. Usually the whole family gets together and they give small gifts to the father. In some parts of Spain father´s day is celebrated during: Las Fallas.

Seize the opportunity to express your gratitude to your father. The best way is to hug him and say "I love you, Dad" ... and not just on Father's Day!

Ciudad Rodrigo…. The Carnival of the bull

Ciudad Rodrigo is a city rich of history of the Iberian peninsula. It is enclosed in medieval walls located on an hill on the right of the river Aguenda where it is possible to see wonderful artworks.

It is known for its carnival, Ciudad Rodrigo attracts thousands of tourists from all parts of the world. During the carnival bullfights taking place in Plaza Mayor where it is built a “square” rectangular.
The party doesn’t start in the square alone, but much earlier, the bulls are accompagned on the streets where people more daring approach to touch the bulls always running to Plaza Mayor.

It is exciting to see so many people running through the streets, singing, dancing  that they want  to make "fiesta". .  A lot of brass bands  are on the streets creating an unusual setting  the previous weekend until Tuesday carnival night.

At midday you start listening to the tolling of the bells that predict  the entrance of the bulls in the field. Everything begins to take shape and at one o’clock valiant bullfighters dressed as different characters give evidence of willingness to subdue the bull, beginning the  bullfighting but  without killing the same.

The audience and I  were very agitaded together at the sight of such a show. Exciting !!!!!!
After the bullfight arena’s doors were opened and we danced all day.
Thank you Ciudad Rodrigo, Thank you Salamanca for so much life!
